You will meet and greet with your state-licensed guide and start a journey through time, beginning with a stroll through the center of the old city, before reaching the Acropolis.
From the moment you enter the archaeological site you will start feeling the connection with the historical past that was the base for our present. The hill itself has been inhabited since the 4th millennium BC. Once you pass through the monumental Propylaea gateway, you can wander between the remarkably well-preserved temples of the Erechteion, Athena Nike and finally the Parthenon, the temple dedicated to the ancient city’s patron goddess, Athena. You will learn the subtle secrets and hidden messages that these temples preserve for thousands of years. Take your time to appreciate the view from a commanding vantage point, to orient yourself with the Aegean and to see how the concrete neighborhoods of Athens slot together.
Having taken all in you will start your descend from the Sacred rock of Acropolis. But wait! There is more if you wish!
Right before the end of your tour, your tour guide can lead you away from the bitten path and take you around the slopes of the hill where you will see the Theatre of Dionusus, the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the Odeon (“music hall”) of Herodes Atticus and the cave shrines dedicated to smaller gods.
Return to your hotel OR continue your exploration of the city. Don’t hesitate to ask your guide for recommendations in order to fill up your day in Athens.
